BMW is working on the next-generation 7 Series which is expected to be unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, scheduled to take place in September 2015. Media reports also claim it to be lighter, more efficient and better on performance.

The company has used carbon fiber reinforced plastic, aluminium and magnesium and high strength steels, which makes it lighter than the previous model. According to British media, the saloon will be 170kg lighter than the outgoing model. The next-gen BMW 7 Series saloon will be offered in both the standard wheelbase (G11) and long wheelbase (G12). Both models will be offered with a bunch of high-tech features such as Wi-Fi hotspot, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, wireless charging, etc. Adding to it, the saloon is also likely to get laser headlamps and an advanced park assist system.

The new BMW 7 Series will get an evolutionary exterior design with a large grille complemented by newly designed and slightly smaller headlamps. The bumper features a new lower air intake with LED fog lamps, which resembles the one found on the BMW 6-Series. Prominent creases and shoulder line are visible, while the rear gets L-shaped taillights.

Set to go on sale in early 2016, the next 7 Series will be made available with a wide variety of engines including 2.0L 4-cylinder that is good for 260PS and six-cylinder unit with 330PS of power. It will also get a V8 motor that makes 460bhp, and the V12 6.6-litre unit, powering the Rolls-Royce Wraith, will develop 600bhp of power. The vehicle is also expected to get plug-in hybrid variants as well.
