General Motor is working on a new baby SUV based on Aveo platform. While details have yet to be finalized, the new car is being engineered and designed by GM Dat in Korea. The model was displayed in clay model at GM’s Korean R&D centre. GM Dat design director Taewon Kim has confirmed that it will have the same family look as the new generation Chevrolet vehicles. However, there will be more attention paid to interior quality, colour and trim than other Chevrolet car models.
The new car concept model is slated to be previewed the upcoming Detroit Auto Show. The earlier expected release of the model is only by 2012. General Motors executives state that the vehicle will use a stretched Aveo platform and that it may allow customers to choose between front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive.
Chevrolet offers the Aveo with an engine range that includes six units, four petrols and two diesels. The diesel part of the range consists of two versions of a 1.3 liter engine, which produce 75 and 95 hp, respectively. Customers who opt for a petrol unit can choose between a 70 hp and a 86 hp version of a 1.2 liter powerplant, a 1.4 liter engine that produces 100 hp and a 115 hp 1.6 liter unit.
