After having finished the 2012 season of the World Superbike Championship in a fantastic way, Dhoni's team disclosed its new identity and even announced the names of two new riders. Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Superbike Championship Team is also considering to enter other categories of bike racing like Sport and Supersport.

Talking about it Dhoni said, "We will have to chalk out a plan because there are three categories, Sport Supersport and Superbike. We will see how it goes. Definitely it's and option for us.”

The team changed its name from MSD R-N Racing Team India to Mahi Racing Team India. Apart from this, the team's KawasakiZX-6R bike will now sport a new logo and livery. On the name change of the team, Dhoni said, "We thought MSD R-N was quite a big name. There were some other reasons also. So we thought let's keep it sweet and simple to Mahi Racing Team India." Dhoni also said that they would open two riding schools at Greater Noida.

The team has signed up three-time world champion Kenan Sofouglu and the former champion Fabien Foret, who finished fourth in the 2012 season. Indian team, with the new riders along with existing members Dan Linfoot and Florian Marino, will eye the 2013 championship title.

Despite entering midway into the racing season, the team managed to put up a strong performance, with its rider Dan Linfoot even managing to get a podium finish in the final race at Magny Cours, France.

Dhoni said, "Riding a bike was a dream but I still cannot ride a bike at this level. We would like the team to do well. There is a mix of talent there are young drivers and there are experienced drivers." Dhoni added that owning racing team was like a dream come true and that he had never expected to do anything like that in life.

Mahi racing team, apart from competing all the races in the 2013 season, will also take part in FIM World Superbike Championship to be held at the Buddh International Circuit in March 2013. The Mahi racing team will have to even compete with Mahindra Racing team, which is India's other big motorcycle racing team and have already made its name by winning the Constructors Title in the 125GP class at the Italian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (CIV). Indians and especially Dhoni's fans will have a lot of expectations from the Mahi Racing team which now even has a world champion as a part of the team.
