2012 Mitsubishi Outlander has finally been rolled out by the Japanese car maker in India at Rs. 20.55 lacs, Rs. 60,000 higher than anticipated. This rise in price is probably due to the 2 per cent increase in taxes imposed by the government in the 2012 Union Budget. The company had already conducted a soft launch for the vehicle, when it was unveiled at Rs. 19.95 lacs. Even though Mitsubishi had refused to confirm the same at that time, details of the new seven seater model were present with a few dealers.

The major difference between the new and outgoing models is the addition of two jump seats in the last row, with sufficient space only for children. Outlander's latest edition will run on the same 2.4 L MPFI petrol engine that was used by the manufacturer in the previous five seater version. This engine produces 168 hp of power and 226 Nm of torque and delivers fuel efficiency of 10.3 kmpl. A 6 speed automatic transmission system is integrated in the model for smooth gear changes. However, there is no diesel variant of the model present in the country even now.

Outlander's new seven seater iteration is equally suitable for city driving and off-roading. It features keyless operating systems, powerful Rockford Fosgate premium 710 watt music system with 6 CD changer and USB port, row seating with tumble function, split tail gate and cruise control. Quality leather upholstery, 3 spoke leather wrapped steering wheel and many other luxury features make it ideal for buyers who seek a plush family vehicle. On the other hand, its avaitor-inspired grille and HID headlamps with AFS render an aggressive look.

In order to ensure the safety of passengers, Mitsubishi has included features like Antilock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) in the 2012 Outlander. Along with these, the car also has Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) parameters as well as body and dual frontal airbags for additional occupant safety.
