German automaker Mercedes Benz is planning to introduce its new Sports Coupe, Mercedes SLS AMG, in the Indian market. The company has recently launched the car successfully in the European market. The model will be imported as a completely built unit in India and will carry a hefty price tag of Rs. 5-6 crores.
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, which is built around an aluminum space frame body, feature an AMG 6.3-litre V8 front-mid-engine developing 420kW and peak torque of 650Nm, along with 7-speed double-declutch transmission, and 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels. The sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, and has an electronically limited top speed of 317 km/h. Mercedes has not revealed the final launch date of the car but it is expected in the Indian market by the end of third quarter of this year.
Mercedes has also recently launched the C200 CGI model in the Indian market. The model is priced at Rs. 29.0 lakh (ex-showroom, Hyderabad) and comes equipped with their new CGI (charged gasoline injection) technology which provides better fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
