Mercedes Benz, the German luxury car maker, is aiming to increase its manufacturing capabilities by two folds, by the end of 2013. The German car maker will increase the assembly operations of its Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units. This company will soon start the assembly of its new 2012 Mercedes Benz ML Class. As per the plans of the company, this car will be bought as CKD and then will be assembled at the Mercedes Benz's plant.

The company has equipped its ML 350 CDI with a 3 litre V6 diesel engine, which is likely to emit enormous power as well as torque. Moreover, by the end of 2012, the company will also launch a small diesel version of this car equipped with a 2.2 litre engine. The 2.2 L engine of this car will have enough potential to churn out an impressive power of 204 bhp with a peak torque at 500 Nm. With the launch of this 2.2 litre CDI diesel unit, Mercedes will deliver a tough competition to the entry level cars of the crossover and luxury SUV segment like BMW X3 and Audi Q5.

Besides this, the assembling of Mercedes Benz GL Class will also start at company's Chakan plant by the first quarter of 2013. The main idea behind importing CKD kits is to substantially reduce the cost of vehicles and provide a tough competition to other big players of the Indian market. As per reports, BMW is also likely to follow Mercedes Benz and assemble its much demanded SUV BMW X5 in India.
