The country’s second largest luxury car maker Mercedes Benz has been in a golden patch since last two years. With the help of a series of new car launches and aggressive expansion of dealership network, the German auto giant has managed to register heavy sales growth in the current year. The car maker has managed to sell 5,700 units of its cars in just nine months of current calendar year (January to September 2011), as compared to just 5,600 units sold in the whole calendar year in 2010 (Jan to Dec).

The car maker expects that the luxury segment will grow 20 to 30 percent during current year. In a statement given to PTI, company's MD and CEO Peter Honegg said, "We have sold 5,700 units during the period January till September against 5,600 units which we sold in entire year of 2010." He added that "With three months still left in 2011, we aim to sell 7,000 units by end of this year."

The leading German car makers including BMW and Audi are in a tough battle with Mercedes Benz in the Indian market, fighting to grab top slot in the country. Both BMW and Audi, which are arch rivals of Mercedes Benz in the global market, are aggressively expanding their India portfolio. While BMW is aiming to maintain its top position in the Indian market in company years, Audi is aiming to become the number one car maker in India by year 2014.
