Mercedes-Benz India, the domestic division of well renowned German auto maker, has expressed its intentions to perform aggressively in the Indian auto market during the ongoing year. The auto maker seems all set to deliver a stiff competition to its compatriots BMW and Audi, who are currently ruling the luxury car segment of the Indian auto market. Reportedly, the expansion plans of ‘three pointed star’ include the launch of new cars, footprints of exclusive dealerships in more cities and an increase in the investment at production plants.

Industry experts believe that this expansion plan is a part of company’s vision for 2020, till when it is planning to regain the numero uno title as a luxury car maker. As a part of strategy, for 2013, the auto maker has planned to increase the number of outlets and bring down the price of its several models. Off late, the German auto maker has inaugurated a new 60000 square feet sales outlet at an investment of Rs. 70 crores. Besides this outlet, the car maker is looking ahead to soon open the doors of more touch points with an additional investment of around Rs. 480 crores

All these plans and strategies seems too fast for the Indian market as in recent past, the auto maker was unable to perform well in the auto sector. Mercedes-Benz India has been facing a stiff competition from the indigenous auto makers, BMW and Audi, who are regularly introducing new models in the market. Interestingly, Mercedes-Benz was renowned as the biggest luxury car maker in Indian auto sector till 2009, the year when BMW forayed into the market. Since then, the former was unable to outpace the latter, and rather has been slipped to the third position by Audi India.

Reportedly, the senior officials of Mercedes-Benz India are planning to take the level of competition to a new level, among the German trios. Industry experts believe that this initiative will come as a delight for the domestic audience, who all are waiting for good news from the end of premium car makers of the country.
