Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the leading car maker in the Indian market, has said that it will enhance the number of its driving schools to 400 centers from current number of 192 driving schools. The company is aiming to complete this task over the period of next 2 to 3 years.

So far, the Indian auto giant has trained over 10 lakh people in the Indian market. This figure includes the 5 lakh people trained under the National Road Safety Mission (NRSM), which was launched about three years back in December 2008.

Speaking to the reporters in the National Capital, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) Managing Executive Office (Marketing and Sales) Mayank Pareek said, "So far we have trained over 10 lakh people. We now target to double the network of Maruti driving schools to 400 in the next 2-3 years. While further elaborating the importance of the road safety institutes and quality training, Mr. Pareek said, "In terms of fatalities, around 1,60,000 lives are lost annually in road accidents. As the automobile sector continues to grow, there is a need to bring in high quality training institutes, which help institutionalize high 'quality training' on road safety."

At present, the company operates 6 Institutes of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) along with 192 Maruti driving schools. It has been more than a decade since the company is working on enhancing road safety.
