      Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Touches 15 Lakh Sales Milestone

      India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki has announced that the Wagon R has crossed the milestone of 15 lakh cumulative sales in India. First launched in 2000, the Wagon R is a tall boy hatchback which is still generating excellent sales numbers for the company.

      Speaking on this milestone, Mr Manohar Bhat, Vice President (Marketing) said, “Launched in 2000, Wagon R has been amongst India’s top 5 best-selling brands. With its space, features and comfort, Wagon R has been the choice of the “Smart customer” and consistently remained among India’s most loved car brands.

      In 2013-14, the company managed to sell around 1.56 lakh Wagon R, while the current year's sales stand at 93,000 units. Since its launch in 2000, the vehicle has received several upgrades based on the customer feedbacks. The regular updates and successful marketing initiatives focusing on the core proposition of ‘Smart’ is the major reason behind its huge success in the Indian market.

      Moreover, the company regularly adds new variants and fuel options to offer more option to buyers. IN 2010-11, MSI launched the CNG trim of the vehicle, which accounts for over 50 per cent of the total sales in cities like Delhi and Mumbai. In 2013-14, the company introduced the stylish Wagon R Stingray. The Wagon R is propelled by a 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 67bhp and a peak torque of 90Nm. It is claimed to return an excellent mileage of 20.5kmpl in petrol, while the CNG version's fuel efficiency is rated at 26.6km/kg.
