Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer, is planning to launch two new SUVs in the Indian car market in 2015. The S-Cross Crossover and the XA-Alpha based compact SUV will go on sale in the country in 2015. The S-Cross SX4 has been spotted several times during its test rounds on Indian roads. However, the XA-Alpha production is yet to begin.

The S-Cross SX4 crossover SUV will go on sale in the Indian car market by early next year. Unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show in concept form, the S-Cross will compete against the likes of Duster and Terrano. The production version of the SUV looks quite closes to the concept shown in February; however, the company has made some subtle changes to make it look road compatible. The crossover SUV has high ground clearance, metal scuff under the bumpers and black plastic cladding all around the body. It is also expected to get the ‘Allgrip’ all-wheel drive system.

The S-Cross SX4 will be offered with both petrol and diesel fuel options. The oil burner will get Fiat’s sourced 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 118bhp and 320Nm while the gasoline version is the 1.6L naturally aspirated motor that develops 120bhp and 156Nm of torque. Both the engines will be paired to a six-speed manual transmission gearbox.

The XA-Alpha based compact SUV too will be made available in both petrol and diesel guise. While the diesel version is likely to get the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre multi-jet engine, the petrol version is expected to be the 1.4-litre engine that also powers the Ertiga MPV.
