Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the country's largest passenger car maker, has finally launched Stingray in the domestic market at a price tag of Rs. 4.09 lakh. The model has been offered in 3 variants, namely LXi, VXi and VXi Option Pack. It must be noted that earlier the auto maker was expected to name this new model WagonR Stingray, which it changed to just Stingray. In international markets, the same car is marketed as Suzuki WagonR Stingray.
All the three variants of Maruti Suzuki Stingray are equipped with an identical 1-litre K10 petrol engine, which has been sourced from the current generation WagonR model. The maximum power produced by this powertrain stands at 67 bhp, along with a torque of up to 90 Nm. Adding to its performance, the engine has been mated to 5-speed manual gearbox, which channelises all the power output to rear wheels of the car. According to company claims, the model returns a fuel efficiency of 20.51 kmpl, which will surely lure the Indian buyers across its stand. However, unlike its sibling WagonR, Stingray has not been rolled out in a CNG variant as of now.
Expressing his views at the launch ceremony, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Maruti Suzuki India, Kenichi Ayukawa was quoted as saying, “With Stingray, we carry forward our focus to make our best sellers even more attractive.”
The LXi variant has been tagged with a price of Rs. 4.9 lakh, whereas VXi and VXi (O) are offered for Rs. 4.38 lakh and Rs. 4.67 lakh, respectively. On the terms of designing, Maruti Suzuki has changed its well appreciated WagonR much, in order to offer an aggressive and bold look to Stingray. The front fascia of Stingray features a sleek and slim chrome polished grille, redesigned fog lamps and large air dam. Along with, the model has been fitted with projector beam head lights, which are said to be the first feature in this respective segment. The rear end of Stingray consists clear lens treatment, spoiler and a chrome strip with embossed name of the model.
Interiors of Stingray are covered with all-black upholstery. The model is offered with an dashboard fitted music system, which is compatible with USB and AUX inputs. Also, the recently introduced Stingray has steering mounted controls, which adds to the convenience of driver. Industry experts are of a view that the launch of a new model in compact car segment by the segment leader Maruti Suzuki will surely stir the competition.
