      Maruti Suzuki's unified sales surge by 12.45 per cent in November 2012

      Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country's largest passenger car maker, has announced a surge of 12.45 per cent in the combined vehicle sales (domestic and export) during November 2012. Evidently, the October and November long Diwali festivities helped the company in pumping its sales in the domestic market.

      According to a statement released by the company, Maruti Suzuki registered total vehicle sales in the country along with exports at 1,03,200 units during November 2012, as against just 91,772 units sold in the corresponding month last year. Further, the company witnessed its sales in the country climbing up by 9.67 per cent at 90,882 units during this year's November month, as compared to 82,870 vehicles sold on domestic turf in the year ago period.

      Maruti Suzuki's export business also went up by 38.37 per cent at 12,318 units during last November as against 8,902 units dispatched overseas in the same month last year. Further, the company recorded a 2.35 per cent increase in its passenger car sales in the domestic market as well at 74,793 units, up from 73,078 units sold in November 2011.

      The sales of Maruti Suzuki's small car fleet suffered a small drop of 5.76 per cent at 36,679 units during November 2012, as compared to 38,921 units sold in the same month of last year. The company's small car Indian portfolio comprises Maruti Alto 800, A-Star, Alto and WagonR hatchbacks. Further, the sales in compact segment jumped up by 7.63 per cent at 23,849 units, as compared to 22,159 units delivered last year in the same period. MSIL's compact range includes the likes of Estilo, Swift and Ritz hatchbacks.

      Coming to MSIL's big car fleet, its DZire compact sedan witnessed an increase of 29.97 per cent, with sales standing at 13,502 units for November 2012. Last year, sales of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire stood as 10,403 units in the same month. However, the sales of SX4 mid sized sedan plunged by 51 per cent at just 692 units as against 1,433 units sold during last November (2011). Maruti Suzuki's premium executive sedan Kizashi that has been discontinued in the country witnessed the largest drop in demand and its sales fell by 56.17 per cent at only 71 units, when some 162 units were sold in the year ago period.
