Maruti Suzuki India Limited recently launched the updated model of its premium sedan SX4 in India which is now available with the new K-series engine option and also with automatic transmission. The largest carmaker in India is now giving all other models a run for their money, including perhaps the Honda City. Although SX4 had temporarily displaced Honda City from its number one position temporarily in June 2007, nevertheless, same situation had not been achieved so far since then.

The latest model of SX4 has infused better sales in the market and the automatic transmission option at an affordable price has made Indian car buyers rejoice. Although AT feature and the new VVT engine in SX4 has brought both the cars closer to compete fiercely in their segment, nevertheless, SX4 does lack Honda’s superb aerodynamic design and its 5-speed gearbox. SX4 still comes with 4-speed gear option. On the other hand, Honda City fails to compete with SX4 on rough terrains. The car is definitely not meant for rough patches with its 160mm of ground clearance. SX4 performs much better as an off-roader. Moreover, 15” wheels of Honda City do not match as perfectly with Maruti SX4’s 16” tyres.

Maruti cars have known to be low maintenance cars and with the new price tag which is nearly a lakh lower than its competitors, the car surely gets a competitive advantage in a price sensitive market.
