      There have been a plethora of car releases in 2014, approximately in all the segments. Some have been quite a hit whereas some others could not come up to the usual expectations. Indian manufacturers as well as foreign carmakers made quite a statement this year. However, the year definitely belonged to Maruti and Hyundai, the cars of these two brands making quite a statement in the market. Let us look into the deeper aspects of the two most talked about car launches of these manufacturers for the year 2014.

      Hyundai Elite i20 was launched in August and has gone on to win the Indian Car of the Year 2015. The car has performed immensely well and has received more than 56000 bookings in a matter of four months. It is powered by a 1.4 litre CRDi engine for the diesel variant and a 1.2 litre engine for the petrol variant. The net power out for the diesel engine is 90 PS with 220 Nm of torque, while the petrol mill churns out a maximum of 83 PS power with a torque output of 114 Nm. Definitely, the hatchback segment has been enriched by the entry of this model from Hyundai.

      Coming to the segment of sedans, Maruti Suzuki has introduced Ciaz, which is powered a 1373 cc mill. The maximum power output of the car is 91 bhp at the rate of 6000 rpm. The torque output for the car is 130 Nm at the rate of 4000 rpm. Four-Wheel Drive (FWD) option is provided for better manoeuvring. Power is transmitted to the wheels using a five-speed gearbox. The mileage is approximately 20.73 kilometres per litre (ARAI), which is quite good for a car of this segment. These models have been the best-selling and most talked about cars of 2014.
