The Maruti Suzuki Celerio seems to have kicked off a mass hysteria of Automated Manual transmission technology in budget cars in the Indian market. In the past news had been doing rounds that the Automated Manual transmission magic may be passed onto the Alto K10 series as well. Sources have gone to the extent of stating that the car may be launched sometime by the end of this year. Based on recent reports, the automatic cars in the country sum-up to 5% share in the market, but the Celerio came as an exception with over 50% of share in the market. Mayank Pareek, Maruti’s COO for marketing and sales, said, “I had expected around 35% of sales to come from the auto gear option. I was very confident of the response, but others had said I was expecting too much. AMT was a completely new technology and untested yet in this market. Now we are trying to increase supply. The demand has been very satisfying,”

Detailed report on exact technical specification or pricing for the Alto K10 has not been revealed for now. The company prefers being tight lipped on the same and shall reveal details at a planned event. The current lot of K10 is powered by 998cc, All Aluminum Light Weight K108 engine that generates about 68 Ps of power and 90 Nm of torque. The hatchback reportedly delivers a fuel efficiency of around 20.92 kmpl. For comfortable drive experience on Indian roads the hatchback gets Mcpherson Strut with Torison Type Roll Control Device for the front, whereas the rear is blessed with Coil Spring, Gas Filled Shock Absorbers with Three Link Rigid Axle and Isolated Trailing Arm. If the automatic variant makes it to the local market, it shall definitely help in boosting sales for the steadily declining market for Alto series.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio has been the talk of town owing to its new innovative technology called as the automated manual transmission. The Celerio comes with EZDrive technology which is a comfortable replacement of the manual shift. It has been often considered that an automatic variant is low on efficiency and high on maintenance but the Celerio claims to be highly fuel efficient at 23.1 kmpl and also offer hassle free driving. Some of the factors that are responsible for higher efficiency is the optimized compression ratio, reduced frictional losses, low viscosity engine oil, and re-designed valves and springs.
