After Tata's Nano, its Maruti's turn to take over the ultra-cheap car segment! Maruti had denied all its plans to launch any Nano-competitor in its product portfolio. However, it has recently launched a mini car Cervo in Japan. The car is powered by 640cc engine offering 54bhp. Maruti aims to launch this car in India by the end of 2008, same time as the launch of Tata's Nano. The new model has more power than Alto or M800 and quite similar to that of Wagon R.

The new model has been developed at Suzuki's headquarters, Hamamatsu in Japan. It shall sport more contemporary looks and has emission standards of Japan's 4-star with more 10 percent fuel economy.

“We are working on a mini car which would be lower than 800cc in engine capacity," Maruti"s director, sales & marketing Shuji Oishi commented about the car. He also added that Suzuki's car shall be more fuel efficient than any other car in the segment. M800 is also the most fuel efficient car in India offering mileage of 18-20 km per litre.

Maruti Suzuki is India's largest car manufacturer with its manufacturing facilities in Gurgaon and Manesar in north India. Gurgaon houses three fully integrated plants with a total installed capacity of 350,000 units.
