Only two auto manufacturers in India seem a little unfazed by the slowdown in the economy. Maruti Suzuki India Limited is one of them along with Hyundai Motors India Limited. Maruti has recorded a jump of 15 percent in its sales in the month of April 2009. It sold 71,748 units in April 2009 as compared to 62,336 units in the same month last year.
"This is the fourth consecutive month of sales crossing the 70,000 units mark," a company statement said. The figures include 6,891 units exported. Total domestic sales surged nine per cent with 64,857 units of sale as against 59,539 units in the same period a year before.
Maruti recorded a dip in sales of its most popular model 800 by 47 percent as it sold only 2,345 units sold in April this year as against 4,458 units sold during the same period last year. However, its sales volume for Wagon R, Alto, Zen, Swift and A-star grew by 9 percent. The sales volume for SX4 and Dzire grew by 69 percent as compared to its sales in April 2008.
