      Maruti Plans to Launch India Car"

      Maruti has recently launched its latest model, A-Star, in the Indian market. It now plans to launch an “India Car” in the country by the year 2011. India’s largest car manufacturer and second largest car exporter plans to launch ‘Made in India’ compact car by 2010-11 in the country. The company’s research and development centre in Gurgaon and its engineers are having a race against time to launch the full-indigenised car rolled out from the Maruti stable.

      The company is also in the process of hiring at least 100 engineers more to speed up its ‘Made in India’ car. "We will launch the compact car by 2010-11, which will be fully made in India. Engineers at the R&D centre are working nights. We are also coordinating with key vendors,” said MM Singh, Maruti’s Managing Executive Officer (Production).

      Maruti currently has the manufacturing capacity of producing 7 lakh cars from its Gurgaon plant and another 2.4 lakh units from its Manesar plant. It has already launched a 5 percent across-the-board cost cutting for production of its cars and plans to maintain a 2.5 percent growth in the first half of the next CY 2009.
