Maruti Suzuki is developing a range of new petrol and diesel engines that are a lot more powerful and fuel-efficient too. There are atlas two small petrol engines in the making, one is a 660cc petrol engine that could replace the Alto’s 800cc mill and the second one in line a 1.0-litre BoosterJet, which will be the company’s replacement for its 1.4-litre petrol engine on the Ciaz and the Ertiga. The diesel range is two at the moment, the first is the 793cc Celerio and the second will be a 1.5-litre diesel.Maruti Baleno Side

The 660cc will be the new smaller engines and the second in line is the 1.0-litre BoosterJet. There is also likely to be a 660cc turbocharged engine that will be replacing the 1.0-litre K- Series engine as well. Maruti along with its technology partner Suzuki is developing an array of engines for the Indian car market and even other global markets too. Suzuki has a simple strategy, to make lighter and safer cars, so they have smaller engines that are efficient. This way, they can get better performance and even improved driving dynamics. The emission and crash norms can also be met with these principles.

Maruti Suzuki’s first product in this direction is the new Baleno. This new premium hatchback is based on Suzuki’s fifth-generation platform that is lighter by about 100 kilograms. This way the company has retained the small set of engines on the Baleno and this makes it more efficient and also enhances the performance. This will be strategy that Maruti Suzuki will be implementing in the near future.
