After resuming the production operations at the violence hit plant at Manesar, the country’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is gearing up to offset the production losses suffered due to shortages resulting in long waiting period for the buyers in India. The demand for Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, the nation’s hot favorite in the entry level sedan segment was substantially affected due to production shortages.
Approximately, 65,000 bookings of the new Swift Dzire are yet clamped with a waiting period of 4 to 5 months and the company is resorting to manufacturing the model at its Gurgaon plant while the production activities at Manesar are yet to take full-fledged flight.
Mr. S Mitra, Chief Operating Officer (Supply Chain), was quoted as saying at the annual convention of SIAM, "Now the Gurgaon plant has also started manufacturing the new Dzire after the lockout at the Manesar plant was lifted." He further added, "We are doing this because we have a big backlog and a long waiting list. We want to clear it."
Since, the company found it infeasible to cater to the growing demand at a time when the Manesar plant was sailing through a rough patch, the backlog will now be met with production of the model at its Gurgaon plant.
Mr. M. M Singh, Chief Operating Office – Production, MSIL, commented that currently, with the combined efforts of the Manesar and Gurgaon plant, the production of Dzire sedan has tallied 250 cars per day mark.
While speaking about the planned production turnout, Mr. Singh affirmed that in the last year, the total production was one million units and this year, the company intends to attain a surge by 10 percent.
