Rising demand for Celerio hatchback has led the India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India to increase production of the hatchback by 1,500 units from current 6,000 to 7,000 effective July. The rise in production is to squeeze waiting period for the hatchback that stands at 4 to 5 months. Since Celerio is offered in automated manual transmission which is imported from Italian firm, Magneti Marelli, therefore the process of increase in production cannot be expedited.

Out of the manual and AMT variants, the latter is indubitably more popular than the former as it attracts more bookings. The Indo-Japanese firm has doubled the order of AMT gearbox, the Italian importer, Magneti Marelli which currently provides 1000 units in a month will be providing 3,000 units in a month effective October this year.

The growing popularity for AMT gearbox in India has made the car maker contemplate offering more vehicles with this option. In future we can see more cars from Maruti’s stable equipped with the automated manual transmission. Buzz has it that the upgraded Swift, Dzire and upcoming Ciaz could also be proffered with the AMT tranny. The new C segment sedan from MSI is expected to be launched in India by July.
