Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car maker, is working on an all-new engine family which will power the company’s future cars. The company is also planning to launch the diesel-powered Celerio hatchback in the country. It was speculated that the Maruti Celerio diesel will be launched by 2014 end; however, the maker is now aiming to introduce the diesel powered car by the festive season, 2015.

Few reports suggest that the Celerio diesel has already entered the production. Recently, the production-spec model was spotted with DDiS badge on the front fender. Under the hood is the 792cc twin-cylinder turbo diesel engine that will also power the upcoming Y9T Low Cost Vehicle. It is also expected to be the smallest turbo diesel motor that is likely to produce around 50bhp of top power. Adding to it, this model is also likely to be the most fuel efficient car of the country with mileage of over 30kmpl. It will compete against the likes of Chevrolet Beat and Ford Figo.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel is expected to be priced around Rs. 4 lakh. The successful introduction of Celerio diesel will bring in more turbo diesel powered Maruti Suzuki cars in India. The company is also working on the next generation Wagon R, which is also expected to house a diesel engine.
