The Volkswagen’s Golf small car emerged as the second bestselling car with registering a sales figure of 293,454 units in the Brazilian market during the year. The third and fourth spot was bagged by Fiat’s Uno in Brazil and Volkswagen’s Golf in Germany, by selling 273,537 units and 258,059 units, respectively.

Speaking on the success of the Alto model, Mayank Pareek, managing executive officer, marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, said, “Despite the slowdown in the domestic industry, Alto numbers have grown over the last year.” He added, “There are cheaper cars available and newer players have entered this segment but Alto remains the car that India needs. Very safely, we will see double-digit growth for the car in 2012.”
