In support of agitating workers of Maruti Suzuki, more than 50,000 workers in the country’s biggest auto hub - Manesar-Gurgaon industrial belt – will keep a two hour long strike on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the agitating employees of Maruti are demanding the reinstatement of their sacked colleagues. At present, the Manesar-Gurgaon industrial belt manufactures about 50 percent of the cars and two-wheelers of the country.

The employee unions that will be joining this two hour long strike include workers of Hero Honda's Daruhera plant, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), Endurance Auto, Rico Auto and Satyam Auto.

The contentious issues were discussed in a meeting on Sunday where the representatives of company management, workers and state government were present. In a recent statement, a senior official of Haryana's labor department said, "The demand to reinstate all 11 terminated employees is the biggest bone of contention, with both parties not relenting."

However, while softening its stance on the strike, the company said that it is willing to recognize the new union, which was the main demand of the agitating workers. The worker’s union on the other hand said that if Maruti takes back all 11 workers, they are willing to end the strike.
