There is absolutely no doubt about the Mahindra & Mahindra’s pedigree when it comes to the production of Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and it can well be called as the best in the segment. However, the firm’s attempts at launching vehicles in other segments did not go down too well in the past. Mahindra & Mahindra entered into a partnership with French car maker Renault some years back and launched the Logan model in India but it did not perform too well and was discontinued. The firm, nevertheless, is slowly making in a mark in the segment with the Verito model, which is considerably different from Logan. A comparison needs to be made between Logan and Verito to figure out how the latter has managed to do well whereas the former could not.

A straight comparison between the appearances of both cars would reveal that Verito is much more muscular and sporty than the Logan. Also, being a Mahindra & Mahindra model, it totally reflects the brand’s philosophy of producing solid vehicles. Logan, on the other hand, was designed with elegance kept in mind, something that did not work out well. The interiors of Logan were quite different as compared to the Verito, which features a two-tone instrument panel and electronic ORVM controls. Logan, on the other hand, had more European-styled interiors, something that was not well received by customers.

The biggest difference between Verito and Logan is in the variants. While Logan came in both petrol and diesel versions, Verito has only the latter. Since Logan was a sedan in the petrol segment, its chances of success were reduced considerably reduced due to high competition. Verito, meanwhile, has created a niche for itself, especially in non-urban regions in India, where Mahindra & Mahindra is a huge brand with a top reputation. Verito is fitted with a 1.5-litre engine that produces maximum power of 65 BHP and top torque of 160 Nm.

Market conditions always play a huge role in the success and failure of a vehicle and the same can be said for these two models. Some experts believe that it is a possibility that Logan, with the name Renault attached to it, was slightly ahead of times. Verito has benefited greatly from demand patterns and the rise of Mahindra & Mahindra over the years, something that it is likely to continue doing.
