Mahindra & Mahindra, the leading sports utility vehicle maker, is planning to launch a series of new SUVs and facelifts of existing cars in the country. The company will launch new S101 micro SUV and the U301 Bolero this year, while the updated XUV 500 and Scorpio AT are also on cards. The homegrown maker is also working on the facelift of Thar off-roader, which is also likely to go on sale this year. First launched in 2010, the Thar SUV is yet to receive any facelift. The SUV is now 4 years old in the market, and it requires a makeover to keep things fresh in the market. Some spy shots of the updated off-roader have now hit the internet, indicating a near launch.
Talking about changes, the exteriors of the 2015 Thar features new plastic, new front bumper, extended fender and large side-steps. The rear end largely remains the changes; however, the new soft top is slightly more tilted than the current generation model. The exterior changes are very minimal, but the majority of the upgrades are given to the cabin. Going by the pictures, the Thar facelift is equipped with a new dual shade dashboard that features round and silver finished air conditioning vents. It also gets new instrument cluster, new steering wheel and restyled handbrake lever. Also visible are the two cup holders positioned closer to the gearbox.
Under the hood, the Thar is expected to remain unchanged. It is likely to feature the same 2.5-litre DI and 2.5-litre CRDe engine that produces 63bhp and 105bhp, respectively. A five-speed manual transmission will continue to be paired with the engines.
