After launching the Verito Vibe in the Indian auto market, the country's largest utility vehicle maker, Mahindra & Mahindra, is now looking ahead to bring an electric model of its Verito sedan. Verito Vibe has been placed in the compact hatchback segment and will deliver a stiff competition to the segment leader Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20 and Ford Figo, among others. At the launch ceremony of Verito Vibe, the President (Automotive and Farm Equipment sector) at Mahindra, Pawan Goenka said that the auto maker is looking ahead to introduce a new variant of Verito in the near future.
Sources have reported that Mahindra is planning for the addition of an electric vehicle in the Verito line-up with the help from its completely owned electric vehicle manufacturer, Reva. Interestingly, the auto maker showcased an electric vehicle concept of Mahindra Logan, now named as Verito at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo. All the features of that model were kept same, except for the electric motor, which replaced the diesel engine.
Industry experts are of a view that the electric version of Verito will be pitched over the current electric model of Reva and will give more level of comforts to the electric vehicle lovers. Confirming the launch of new electric vehicles in the Indian auto market, Goenka was earlier quoted as saying, “We will be using the electric vehicle technology to some of our existing products. We are almost ready with the electric Gio and Maxximo, while we have also developed a prototype for the electric Verito.” He further added, “The prototype is ready. Verito is a heavier car than the e2o. There has to be adjustment and optimisation of the technology, and we will be ready to launch it in a year’s time.”
