Mahindra & Mahindra, India's leading Utility Vehicle (UV) maker has announced its intentions to speed up the production of its newly introduced Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Rexton. The auto maker is planning to roll out an additional of 500 units with a view of bringing down the waiting period.

Expressing his views on the same, the company's Chief Executive of Automotive Division, Pravin Shah, said, “We expect the production to go up by at least 500 units in January. This will bring down the waiting period for the vehicle to an extent.”

Interestingly, the waiting period of Quanto is presently floating between 4-6 weeks, whereas Rexton is delivered within 4-8 weeks. By December 2012, the advance bookings of Rexton were standing at 1300 units. On this, he said, “The demand for SUVs like Rexton, Quanto and XUV continues to be good. We have seen production going up... We increased Quanto production in December and see that happening in Q4 also so that the waiting period for the customers comes down.”

Rexton, which was brought to the Indian market in October 2012, happens to be the first model introduced by M&M in India with the association of its Korean subsidiary Ssangyong. At launch ceremony, the company officials said that they are looking ahead or a production capacity of 5000 units per year. Speaking on the future plans, Shah said that the auto company is planning to introduce two new models, the electric car Mahindra Reva NXR and a sub-4 metre Verito sedan.
