Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) Limited, the country's leading utility vehicle manufacturer, has declared a nationwide recall of its flagship XUV500 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in order to replace certain faulty components. In its first ever vehicle recall in the passenger automotive space, the company will replace 3 components, namely front power window units, fluid hose and left wiper blade cover. M&M has also confirmed that the owners with faulty XUV500 will be contacted by the company itself and all the replacements will be provided free of cost.

The country wide recall will see M&M bringing back some of the 60,000 to 65,000 units of its XUV500 model manufactured between 2011 and 2012. However, the utility vehicle maker did not divulge the details regarding the number of XUV500 that need correction. As per reports, the defective batch is M&M's first lot of XUV500 SUVs manufactured in the country.

Informing about the recall and reasons leading to it, Mahindra and Mahindra issued a statement that said, “The company announced that it would carry out replacement of certain parts for a select batch of its XUV500 model. This is in keeping with its customer centric approach as well as in compliance with the recently announced voluntary code on vehicle recall.”
