As per reports, Mahindra & Mahindra’s unified sales numbers stood at 5,63,373 units in 2013 financial year, as against 4,83,164 units recorded in the 2011-2012 fiscal. The company saw its domestic sales surging to 49,225 units during March 2013, as compared to 44,260 units sold in the year-ago period, which again equates to an 11 per cent jump.

Speaking of Mahindra & Mahindra’s passenger car fleet, comprising utility vehicles and the Verito sedan, the company reported a 13 per cent growth as well. Mahindra sold some 25,847 units in March 2013, as against sales of 22,961 units recorded in the same month last year. The company also saw its 4-wheeler commercial segment doing well with sales at 17,212 units during March 2013, a decent increase from sales of 14,696 units reported in the same month last year. Further, Mahindra & Mahindra’s exports stood at 2,679 units during March 2013.

Expressing his delight on the impressive sales performance recorded by the company in March 2013, Pravin Shah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, was quoted as saying, “We are happy to have crossed the half a million sales mark for the first time, during FY 2012-13, given the challenges and the pressures the auto industry is currently facing. The 3 per cent additional excise duty on SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicles) is clearly a deterrent and by not having a level playing field for all SUVs, it certainly destabilises the market dynamics. At Mahindra, we hope to create excitement in the market during FY 2013-14 especially with the launch of our sub 4 metre Verito and other product offerings”.
