India based Mahindra Group has been a strong name in the automobile, finance and technology sector. This time around the group shall make its presence felt not just on ground but also on air, as it finally gets all the required clearances from India’s Civil Aviation ministry. A while ago when Anand Mahindra, Chairman and Managing Director accompanied Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s CEO delegation to Australia, was quoted as saying, “We bought an Australia (aerospace) company and we are selling our planes in California, but due to a rule to do with seating capacity for piston engine plane, we were not able to sell in India.”
Speaking on fresh updates from Civil Aviation, he said, “The aviation ministry has yesterday cleared a few norms for certification, which will finally allow us to sell our Australian planes in India.” The planes that would hit Indian shores are popularly known as ‘Mahindra Gipps’, and feature seating capacities ranging from 5 to 10 seats. A source was also quoted as saying, “We have now amended our laws to be on par with international certification standards and the permission has been granted.”
