Toyota Motors has been facing tough times since past two months in the global market after the mass recall of its cars. The company has received a severe set back on its brand image but its Lexus brand of luxury cars has remained largely unaffected with recalls and other mishaps.
Lexus sales continue to grow in the international market with sales up by 5 percent in 2010. This comes quite close to industry average and is quite a healthy growth. Although Toyota’s overall sales continues to fall and it fell by 15 percent in the month of February.
Only about 500,000 Lexus cars have been recalled, compared with eight million Toyota-brand models. “Toyota is of course the headliner,” said Stephanie Brinley, an analyst with the consulting firm AutoPacific. “While it seems like everybody already knows that Toyota and Lexus are related, that may not be the case. The Lexus name has not been as criticized.”
