Skoda, the completely owned division of German auto Group Volkswagen, seems to be preparing for the launch of a reworked model of Octavia. Interestingly, the latest generation model of Octavia has been introduced in the European markets and thus, its launch in the Indian auto market seems just around the corner. It must be noted that the test mules of the model have been extensively caught testing in the country and therefore, its launch is highly anticipated.

Reportedly, the auto maker has been betting high on 2013 Octavia and auto enthusiasts from all over the country are expecting that the new model will take the market by storm. Industry experts are of a view that the model will be placed in the mid-size sedan segment of the Indian auto industry and will be offered parallel to the Laura. Few auto experts have stated that the demand for current generation Laura has witnessed a hit with the launch of new Cruze and Elantra. Therefore, the auto maker is coming up with a new model in the mid size sedan segment to gain back its lost share.

The latest generation model has been designed on the much renowned MQB platform, which has been the same platform that underpins quite a number of Volkswagen group cars. It must be noted that the new generation model of 2013 Octavia will be fairly bigger than the current Skoda Laura. Sources close to the development process have stated that the upcoming Octavia is almost as big as the Superb sedan.

Speaking on the technical configuration of the upcoming model, it is anticipated that the 2013 Octavia will come equipped with two engine options, either 1.8 TSI turbocharged petrol or a 2.0 TDI turbocharged diesel. The launch of a 1.6 litre TDI turbo diesel engine variant is also present on the cards of the Skoda India, in order to competitively price the base variant of the model. However, it is much obvious that the new generation model of Octavia will be fairly expensive than the Laura, but at the same time, the model will come as a much more value for money proposition to the price sensitive Indian buyers.
