Lamborghini’s Huracan Performante has set a new record at the Nurburgring clocking 6:52:01 minutes at the famous proving grounds in Germany. Lamborghini’s tricked version of their entry-level supercar has beat the current record holder, the Porsche 918 hybrid hypercar by almost five seconds.
The Performante is still under camouflage even during the record run and the fastest Lamborghini around the Nordeschleiffe will break cover at Geneva later this week. The Huracan Perfromante pumps out 40bhp more power from the naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine and more torque as well. With an extensive use of composites and carbon-fibre, it weights lower than the standard car as well. Even the all-wheel drive system has been tweaked to handle more power and more grip form the Pirelli Trofeo R tyres the car is expected to come standard with.
Apart from the standard trickery, the Performante has a new trick up its sleeve. Called the Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva, Lambo language for active aerodynamics, this is the raging bull’s first attempt at it. Well, it has turned out to be extremely successful with the multi-part flaps on the front splitter and the rear wing being controlled electronically to assist the car during acceleration, cornering and braking as well.
For the record lap, the car was driven by Marco Mapelli, the same driver who had given Lamborghini their first ever sub-7 second lap at the Nurburgring aboard the Lamborghini Aventador SV.
