KTM, the renowned Austrian manufacturer, is looking forward to launch a successor to the 990 Adventure bike, which has been named 1050 Adventure. Stefan Pierer, the chairman and CEO of the KTM Power Sports, revealed this part of the story during the launch of RC 200 and RC 390 in India. Adding more, he said that the manufacturer has plans to launch these models in India, few months after it is globally launched. Incidentally, the KTM Adventure 1050 will be a fully-blown endure bike.

Though, there has not been any official declaration about the detailed specifications of this bike, some of it has leaked to the global population. It is expected to be based on the similar tubular space frame platform. There are also speculations that the new Adventure 1050 will be using a rebored version of the 999 cc 75-degree V-shaped twin engine. This mill uses the fuel injection system and is capable of producing a power of 112 bhp mated with a six-speed gearbox. The maximum twisting force produced by the machine is approximately in the range of 100 Nm.

As the 1050 Adventure is being introduced as a full-fledged endure version, it is expected that the model will be equipped with a number of technologies and features, which will make it endure the roughest of terrains at ease. A tall windshield will be in place to protect the rider in adverse weather conditions. Tubular crash bars have been installed on the entire bike to protect the delicate parts and other critical components against any sort of crashes. Storage compartments have been provided aplenty to make sure the rider does not think twice before embarking on a long trip. Inverted telescopic forks might be retained to provide enough suspension on the roughest of roads.

However, the scope of bigger bikes in India is still at a precarious stage. This is the main reason why the Duke 690 and 1290 Super Duke R might not be launched in India. There are speculations that 690 will be replaced by a twin-cylinder motorcycle, however, the Super Duke is considered too perilous for Indian riders. All said and done, the 1050 Adventure will be pitted against the BMWR1200GS, Triumph Tiger 1050 and Yamaha Super Tenere.
