KTM is known for offering affordable yet fun to drive bikes in the country. The affordability of the performance bikes makes it a successful brand in the highly competitive Indian two wheeler market. The company first launched the Duke 200 and 390, both of which received overwhelming response from buyers. KTM later introduced the RC 200 and 390 full-faired motorcycles which also received similar welcome from consumers in the country. However, the revised excise duties by the government this year have forced the maker to announce a price hike across its model range.

The previous government had extended the excise duty benefits till 31st December 2014 to boost the growth in the auto sector. As the market stabilized, the current government decided not to extend the excise duty benefits for 2015. Now, the two wheelers are now charged 12 per cent excise duty instead of the 8 per cent.
