The new fourth generation Jeep Cherokee is due for unveiling at the upcoming Geneva motor show. The American SUV with “Go anywhere, do anything” tag line, sports a four-star overall safety rating conferred by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The car is expected to be launched in three variants namely, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk.
The Jeep Cherokee is powered by 2.0-litre MultiJet II turbo diesel engine that has been mated to the new nine-speed automatic transmission. The SUV shall be available in both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions. The powerful engine genrates about 172 Ps of power with 350 Nm of Torque. As per the American car-maker, Cherokee is the first mid-size SUV to feature a rear-axle disconnect technology, that results in energy loss reduction when 4 × 4 capability is not required, thereby delivering improved fuel efficiency. The Rear-Axle disconnect function is capable of automatically switching between two and four wheel drive system without requiring any sort of manual intervention by the driver.
Peeping into the SUV's interiors, you may see a 7-inch TFT screen adorning the dashboard. The base version gets a premium fabric seat, whereas the top end gets Nappa leather upholstery. The steering is blessed with decent leather. Front seats get heating and ventilating options. The SUV has retained the standard 10 airbag system along with a knee air bag for the driver.
On the exterior, the SUV looks stunning and bold as ever. On the front fascia the SUV sports sharp ninja styled headlamps that blends well with a ‘waterfall’ styled bonnet. The sides sport trapezoidal wheel arches and the sharp railings at the top gives it a rugged off-roader appeal. The rear of this SUV is adorned with a neat set of LED tail lamps. The CommandView dual-pane power sunroof starts from the windshield and flows onto the rear of the vehicle.
The Jeep Cherokee is loaded with interesting technologies, among the list, the Active Drive I features a fully automatic single power transfer unit (PTU) that efficiently delivers smooth operation in and out of four-wheel drive irrespective of speed, whereas the Active Drive II technology features two speed power transfer unit with torque management and low range.
