Jaguar Land Rover, the British auto maker completely owned by Tata Group, seems to be working on a new 2.0 litre engine for the Indian auto market. On this move, industry experts are of a view that the present trend of downsizing engines is a great philosophy as it reduces the level of emissions and enhances the fuel efficiency at the same time. Sources close to the development process have revealed that the Jaguar has sourced the 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine from the American auto maker, Ford Motors, for fitting it into the XJ saloon. The concerned individual further reported that this performance oriented model will be initially introduced in the international auto markets.

Interestingly, 2.0-litre configuration seems like a diminutive engine for a car like Jaguar XJ saloon. It must be noted that this powertrain will be the smallest petrol engine, in this segment of the Indian auto market, after the model will be put on sale in the country. This performance oriented turbocharged direct injection engine is expected to churn out a maximum power of 237 bhp, which will somehow lack by just 1000 bhp, which was offered in the 3.0 litre V6 powertrain. However, industry experts believe that this much lack in the power output will not be a issue for the owners as a number of such models are driven by chauffeurs.

For the base model, the car is expected to come at a price of Rs. 1.16 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it will be placed below the XJ range. Reportedly, the launch of this model will offer a savings of more than Rs. 14 lakh in comparison with the similar 3.0-litre V6 engine model, which has priced around Rs. 1.30 crore. With the launch of a new base XJ model, Jaguar Land Rover will be offering the same level of opulence and luxury as the top end variants of XJ.
