Few years back, Ford India had introduced its used car business Ford Assured in the Indian market in association with its dealership network. However, the business soon closed down due to extremely poor response from the market. Now it is widely speculated that Ford India is once again contemplating its options to re-enter the used car business in association with its dealership network. Ford dealerships will buy and recondition pre-owned cars to sell them again in the market.
Ford’s official spokesperson did not completely deny such plans for the company but said that “plans to enter such a segment are in a very nascent stage and nothing has been finalised yet.” Meanwhile, Ford prepares itself to introduce its new cars in Tier-III cities of India. "Last month we opened 28 sales and service facilities in 24 cities on a single day, out of this 13 were in tier III cities,” stated Ford India’s senior official. Ford intends to have 185 dealerships at the end of this year and expects at least 30 percent of its sales to come from tier-III cities of India.
