      Indian Corporate Supports Tata Nano Project

      In a case of unprecedented unity, India's top businesses have united in support of the Tata Nano project. India Inc. commented that the Nano project has caught worldwide attention that reflects battle between Indian big business and political activists. The issue has caught up in the political whirlwind that has made the world sit up and take notice.

      “Nano is seen as a world car and has drawn international acclaim,” said Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman of the country’s largest mobile company, Bharti Airtel. “Immediate political dialogue to find a solution towards keeping the project in West Bengal is imperative,” he added.

      Earlier another top Indian business conglomerate, Mukesh Ambani, had condemned the protests stating that they were a blow to country's ability to attract job-crating investment. Apart from these, others like Jamshyd N Godrej, C K Birla, Gautam Thapar, Venu Srinivasan, Sunil Kant Munjal, etc. echoed similar sentiments in support of Tata's Nano project.

      The protests have escalated over the past few days and Tata suggested the workers at its Singur plant in West Bengal to stay home on Friday as activists threatened violence. This has halted the much awaited project for world's cheapest car. Tata Motors said that they are suggesting the situation after police escorted hundreds of workers out of the factory on Thursday.
