      IGBC certifies the new green plant of Mahindra Reva with Platinum rating

      The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has provided ‘Platinum’ rating to the Mahindra Reva’s new production facility, based in Bangalore. The electric vehicle manufacturer will pull off the curtains from its new unit in September 2012 and this production plant will be the first of its kind to enjoy the status of such rating.

      Expressing his views on the award, Chetan Maini, Founder and Chief of Strategy and Technology, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles, commented, “We are delighted to receive the ‘Platinum’ certification from an esteemed body like the Indian Green Building Council. We have taken extreme care to ensure that our new manufacturing plant is a sustainable facility in all aspects and adheres to the universally set benchmarks of the IGBC. This certification is a validation of our commitment towards a greener tomorrow.”

      The Green Factory rating system of IGBC examines the eco-friendliness of new and existing manufacturing premises. The governing authority in turn provide credits to the manufacturer for adhering to their pivotal demands like indoor environment quality, site selection as well as planning, occupational health, water, energy and material conservation, innovations and design process.

      Stating his views on the IGBC award, the President, Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors of Mahindra & Mahindra, Dr. Pawan Goenka, quoted, “Mahindra Reva is all about creating the future of mobility solutions for sustainable living. With our new clean and green manufacturing facility at Mahindra Reva, we are in the process of establishing new benchmarks within the automobile industry. The IGBC Platinum certification will go a long way in inspiring and enhancing our vision for a cleaner tomorrow.”

      The new facility of the auto maker will have the potential to roll out 30,000 units every year and will be counted among the greenest constructions across the country. At the new facility, the car maker will manufacture new models with least possible dust-to-dirt carbon emission. The structure of Mahindra Reva’s new unit is designed by utilising the green-sourced materials with green methods, which remains parallel with the standards of IGBC. The Bangalore-based unit of electric vehicle manufacturer comprises many other departments besides a production unit, like a test administrative office block, technology demonstration area and conference area.

      A new manufacturing plant of Mahindra Reva depicts that either the demands of its vehicles in increasing in the auto market or the company is eyeing on some of the decent launches, which will certainly pull the masses. The exclusive rating bestowed upon the facility even before it commenced operations marks an impending good fortune for the electric vehicle manufacturer in the country.
