Hyundai shall complete its product portfolio in compact car segment in India with its launch of new i20 by the end of year 2008. "With i20, Hyundai will complete its portfolio in the compact car segment. Santro, i10 and i20 will cater to the lower, middle and upper end segments respectively in the compact car market," said HS Lheem, Managind Director, Hyundai Motor India Limited.

It also launched its i10 powered by 1.2 litre Kappa engine which shall be priced at Rs. 3.99 lakh to 5.43 lakh. The new i20 shall also be powered by similar 1.2 litre Kappa engine. The new model shall be launched for domestic as well as international markets.
Hyundai Motors India also started production of its new Engine and Transmission plant at Sriperumbudur, near Chennai in India. It had invested $250 million to set up this new plant with an annual capacity of 250,000 units. This plant shall be manufacturing the new Kappa engine that shall cater to demands from five variants of i10 model. The new engine is more eco-friendly as its produces least carbon emission of 119 grams/km as compared to other erstwhile similar models plus it is 5-6 percent more fuel efficient. The company has overall invested $421 million over a period of 48 months in the Kappa project.
