Unveiled globally at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show earlier this year, Hyundai ix25 is one of the highly anticipated vehicles in its segment. Hyundai’s upcoming compact SUV, ix25 has been snapped undergoing test runs on previous occasion and now yet another spy image has appeared. Hyundai will first launch the new compact SUV in Chinese automotive market, if rumours are to be believed, ix25 will be launched in China in October. In China Hyundai would offer both petrol and diesel variants of ix25, it has been learnt from sources that a total of seven trim levels could be proffered including two petrol and five diesel guise. Entry level variants in ix25 range will get the 1.6 litre engine and the top end variants will be powered by the 2.0 litre engine. Measuring 4270mm in length, 1780mm in width, 1630mm in height and 2,590mm wheelbase, the SUV is definitely not a petite offering. Rumours suggest that Hyundai could offer a front wheel drive and an all wheel drive variant in ix25 range. Manual variants will get a six-speed manual transmission, while automatic variants are also likely to be offered.
Local arm of South Korean auto giant has also foreshadowed on the launch of compact SUV in domestic market to be around next year. In India, the SUV will cross swords with rivals like Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Ford EcoSport and other upcoming entrants. We expect the car maker to price the vehicle aggressively at around Rs 8 lakh for the starting range. A competitively priced SUV is what all Hyundai needs to include in its India portfolio now that it has a compact sedan in its range. As we eagerly await launch of ix25 in India, for now the company is ready to launch Elite i20 on August 11, 2014.
