Hyundai India is gearing up to foray into compact SUV and MPV segment where its absence has been conspicuous. There are yet not many details on the compact MPV Hyundai is developing for India, however as for the compact SUV, Hyundai will bring the ix25 compact SUV to India. Out of the two new products, ix25 will be launched first in India next year while the compact MPV will be launched in domestic market next year. In India ix25 will face stiff competition from other SUVs in its segment such as Renault Duster, Ford EcosSport, Nissan Terrano and Mahindra Scorpio. Rumours suggest that Hyundai could price the compact SUV at Rs 8 lakh for the base model (Please note this is a hypothetical price being speculated for the SUV).

On the exterior front features like projector head lights, LED daytime running lights, alloy wheels, fog lights and a triple-slat chrome grille could be incorporated on the high end trims. Speculations further opine that Hyundai could place another trim above the three-slat grille variant that will come with two-slat grille. Hyundai will first launch new ix25 in China in the month of October followed by other overseas markets. Hyundai China will offer ix25 in two engine options including a 1.6 litre engine and a 2.0 litre powertrain, both the engines will be synchronised to a six-speed manual transmission.

Besides a manual transmission, an automatic gearbox is also expected to be offered. Hyundai will offer front wheel drive system in the base and mid-level trims and an all wheel drive system could be equipped on the high end version.

The compact MPV is expected to compete with vehicles like Maruti Ertiga, Honda Mobilio, Nissan Evalia and Chevrolet Enjoy in domestic market. HMIL is eyeing to expand its market share in India and hence has lined up a string of new launches in domestic market.
