Hyundai, the South Korean automaker, finally launched its first ever hatchback-crossover - the i20 Active - in the Indian market. It will rival against the likes of Fiat Avventura, Toyota Etios Cross and Volkswagen Cross Polo. Here is a brief spec-based comparison among these four pseudo crossovers.
Dimensions
The Hyundai i20 Active crossover measures 3,995mm in length, 1,760mm in width and 1,555mm in height (with roof rail), and has a large wheelbase of 2570mm. Compared to i20, the ground clearance of the crossover has been raised by 20mm at 190mm.
On the other hand, the Avventura crossover 3989mm long, 1706mm wide, 1542mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2510mm. The Toyota Etios Cross measures 3895mm in length, 1735mm in width, and 1555mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2460mm. While the ground clearance of the Avventura stands at 205mm, the Etios cross has 174mm of ground clearance.
is the oldest in the segment. It is 3987mm long, 1698mm wide and 1483mm tall, and it comes with a wheelbase of 2469mm. The ground clearance of the crossover is 165mm.
Engine
The i20 Active crossover shares its engine line-up with its sister sibling - the Elite i20. While the petrol engine is a four-cylinder 1.2-litre Kappa unit that produces 83bhp and 113Nm of torque, the oil burner is a 1.4-litre CRDi motor that churns out 89bhp and 219Nm of torque. The petrol unit is paired to a five-speed manual gearbox and the diesel engine is coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox.
The Avventura petrol is powered by a 1.4-litre FIRE engine producing 89bhp and 115Nm, while the diesel model gets the tried & tested 1.3-litre MJD mill that is good for 92bhp and 209Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. The Etios Cross gets a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 79bhp and 104Nm as well as a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 89bhp and 132Nm. The oil burner is a 1.4-litre D-4D motor producing 67bhp and 170Nm of torque. All the engines are coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Cross Polo is powered by the same petrol and diesel drivetrains that power the Polo hatchback. The engine options include 1.2-litre three-cylinder unit developing 74bhp and 110Nm, and the 1.5-litre engine that develops 89bhp and 230Nm.
