Honda Motor unveiled its new compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) VEZEL on 20th November 2013 at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. As per company officials, this all new vehicle fuses together highly sought after features in gratifying proportions for a unique stand. It is put on display at the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show (press days: November 20 - 21, 2013, public days: November 23 - December 1, 2013). However, how soon this vehicle will be showcased or launched in the Indian car market is still unknown as any official comment is yet to be made. It is believed that Honda will be revealing details of this utility vehicle on 19th December, 2013 and sales in Japan will commence from 20th December.
Honda VEZEL happens to be an utility vehicle with excellent exteriors and interiors. Incidentally, there is an emerging trend that highlights the rising popularity of compact utility vehicles in the Indian market and similar trends can be noticed in the global market too. Also, compact vehicles like Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster have created a market stir, which has induced several other auto makers to step in this segment. Following the same trend, Honda did not like to be a mere spectator while other auto companies make hay. Hence, it took the development of this SUV and within the stipulated time, the auto company has been successful in unveiling its latest innovation.
As per company officials, “The VEZEL is a completely new model that goes beyond the boundaries of automobile categories by fusing together multifaceted values at a high level, including the dynamic qualities of an SUV, the elegance of a coupé and the functionality of a minivan. The exterior design of the VEZEL expresses SUV-like stability in its lower body and coupe-like styling in its upper body. These two different types of styling are fused together by the sharp character lines to create an inspiring and emotional exterior design. The interior design creates a coupe-like, high-quality personal space for the front seats and minivan-like elbowroom, comfort and functionality for the rear seats.”
This vehicle would be made available for customers in Japan in both, hybrid and gasoline trims. The hybrid version will come equipped with SPORT HYBRID i-DCD (Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive) for enhanced driving dynamics. It will feature a 1.5-litre direct injection engine that can produce impressive power and torque outputs for a superior on-road performance. The fuel efficiency of this vehicle will be pretty decent too. The Indian launch date of this vehicle is yet to be revealed, however, there is a high probability that this new vehicle will be showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. Other auto companies too are impatient to mark their presence at this mega event. Hence, pinning 2014 Auto Expo for unveiling this vehicle looks to be a reasonable choice for Honda.
