Japanese car-maker Honda has been globally known for its immense potential on the technological front. In India, Honda has been one of the most preferred brand in the budget friendly and affordable car segment in the country. As part of Honda's enthusiasm to perform better it has recently demonstrated a self-driving car at 'Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress' event Detroit. The vehicle reportedly drives on its own and does not require a driver's intervention. For now the vehicle is said to be in the developmental phase and may be used in full swing for upcoming models from 2020.

Honda has used the Acura RLX sedan to showcase its technological capability. The vehicle had been wired with multiple radar sensors at the back and front. The vehicle also gets camera's that monitor lane markings and the car's surrounding is continuously scanned by a beacon that sends out laser beams. The GPS device installed in the vehicle ensures that the vehicle stays on the mapped course and follows the speed limit. The prototype has been a dream project for Honda that has spent years for its development. Hironobu Kiryu, chief engineer, said, “Honda is aiming to eliminate accidents, not just for the driver but for pedestrians and drivers of other cars.”

To showcase the vehicle's potential, the driver reportedly took his hand's off from the steering wheel during demonstration. The vehicle accelerated on its own and applied brakes whenever it came closer to other vehicles. The vehicle also signaled on its own before switching lanes. The car performed well on freeways and also reduced its speed when it approached a ramp.
