Honda Cars India Ltd is celebrating 10 years of the Amaze sedan in India. Launched back in April 2013, the sedan was the first car from the manufacturer to get a diesel engine. Since then, it has been a volume-generator for the brand and holds a strong market position in its segment.

The first generation of the Amaze accounted a sales figure of 2,60,000 units till March 2018. Meanwhile, the second-gen model clocked sales of over 2,70,000 units since its introduction in May 2018 up until now. To date, Honda has managed to sell over 5.3 lakh units of the Amaze which accounts for about 53 per cent of sales of the company in India.

At present, the Honda Amaze is powered by a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine producing 89bhp and 110Nm of torque paired with a five-speed manual or a CVT unit. The automaker has updated the sedan to comply with the new RDE and BS6 Phase 2 emission norms.

Honda recently discontinued the City fourth-gen, WR-V, and Jazz in the Indian market and currently only has the fifth-gen Honda City and Amaze in its portfolio. However, a compact SUV is expected to be launched this year.

Commenting on the occasion, Takuya Tsumura, President & CEO, Honda Cars India Limited, said, “Today marks a milestone in our India journey, as Honda Amaze completes a decade-long presence in this market with over 5.3 lakh customers. It is a strategic premium entry model in our portfolio offering ‘One Class Above Sedan Experience’ to our customers with its strong brand appeal, bold styling, excellent performance, durability, build quality, safety, and comfortable experience. We’re glad the Amaze is significantly contributing to our India business and has become the best-selling model in our line-up.”

“The Amaze receives 40 percent of first-time buyers and has shown a growing preference for the advanced CVT automatic variants which accounts for almost 35% of the current model sales,” he added.
