Labor problems continue for Hero MotoCorp, the country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, as the workers’ union of its Gurgaon manufacturing unit has announced to begin hunger strike from February 28, 2013. Evidently, the talks, meetings and negotiations that continued for several months, have failed miserably between the company and its labor force. As per reports, the disgruntled employees are unhappy and are demanding higher wages, which are the prime reasons behind the upcoming hunger strike.

Interestingly, the Haryana State Government intervened in the wage related disputes between Hero MotoCorp’s management and labor force, but provided no real outcome. The hunger strike is expected to be undertaken by the Hero MotoCorp union's office bearers, who will be on an indefinite fast from February 28, 2013. The company’s Gurgaon production unit's employees have also been wearing black armbands, since the past few months

Commenting on the hunger strike to be started from February month end, a functionary of the union has been quoted as saying, “There has been no progress and the Hero management is bent upon forcing its stand of minor hikes only. We have now decided to go on hunger strike to press our demands and a notice has been issued to the company. Only the union members will take part in the protest and others would continue to work.”

Reportedly, the Hero MotoCorp’s permanent work force is asking for an increment of around Rs. 15,000 in their monthly salary for a period of three years, whereas the management is not negotiating over an increase of Rs. 7,500 to Rs. 9,000. The Hero worker’s union and workers are also being supported by other trade unions like Maruti Suzuki India Worker’s Union, along with those of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India.
